FeedHV app brings food phone to table for needy

By Judy Rife

Technology is coming to the rescue, specifically food rescue, in the Hudson Valley.

And, yes, that means there’s an app for that: FeedHV.

This novel approach to ensuring no food is left behind is another element in the Community Foundations of the Hudson Valley’s long-standing campaign to address hunger and reduce waste.

“We were talking about what else we could do, and somebody said ‘I wish we had an app,’” said March Gallagher, president and CEO of the nonprofit. “And so we decided to fund development of one.”

Community Foundations found an app, ChowMatch, already in use through a Silicon Valley software developer and had it modified for its purposes. Then it hired the Hudson Valley Agribusiness Development Corp. in Hudson to administer FeedHV.org and the eponymous app.
